Client Guide

Tattoo Aftercare

Follow the artist’s instructions first. The guidance below is general information for routine tattoo aftercare.

First hours

Leave the initial dressing on for the period recommended by the artist. Before touching the tattoo, wash your hands thoroughly. When the covering is removed, wash the area gently with lukewarm water and mild fragrance-free soap, then pat dry with clean disposable paper towel or allow it to air dry.

During healing

  • Apply only a thin layer of the recommended aftercare product.
  • Do not scratch, pick scabs or peel flaking skin.
  • Avoid swimming pools, baths, hot tubs, saunas and prolonged soaking until healed.
  • Avoid tight or dirty clothing rubbing against the tattoo.
  • Keep bedding and clothing that touch the tattoo clean.
  • Avoid intense sun exposure. Once fully healed, protect the tattoo from sunlight with suitable sunscreen.

When to seek help

Mild redness and tenderness can occur after tattooing, but worsening redness, spreading heat, severe swelling, pus, fever, red streaks or feeling systemically unwell may require prompt medical assessment. Contact an appropriate healthcare professional if you are concerned.
